A Gluten Free Diet

Everywhere you go these days there are stories, ads and conversation about gluten free foods. Does my pizza have gluten in it? What about my hamburger and fries? My smoothie? My t-bone steak? Do we have to run all our food through an analyzer before we eat it? Not quite, but it seems were getting to that point. So why the heck is everything going gluten free?

I’m glad you ask…

Almost everyone has allergies, almost. Some people have an allergy to strawberries, pollen, sawdust, nuts, garlic, work and even broccoli, just to name a few. As with all allergies, celiac disease, also know as wheat allergy or gluten intolerance, has its own seriousness. Each person has their own tolerance.

In some, a tiny piece of bread can produce a rash and stomach pain while in others it can put them in the hospital. The same thing can happen to someone who is allergic to strawberries. So it’s no wonder that people are asking about gluten free food these days. Especial as gluten is used as a filler for a lot of product. Did you know they use gluten in lipstick? Over the counter medications? Vitamins? Vitamin…aren’t they suppose to keep you healthy?

Gluten comes from wheat, rye, barley, and maize. For those whose have celiac disease they must have a diet completely free of any gluten. At this time there is a controversy about whether oats contain gluten. Always eat on the side of caution, try a little bit and see what happens.
For the rest who don’t have this allergy, a little consideration on your part will go a long way in helping others with this problem. All it take is a list of foods celiac suffers can eat and you can get a free download at gluten free food list.
